Anne van Voorst
Anne van Voorst is living on a small farm in Sinderen with his partner. There, they breed rare sheep, including Portland sheep.
Caring for these sheep and their robust wool inspired Anne to work with wool. Besides the sheep, he is also inspired by working with wood, which he finds everywhere in nature.
The combination of this wood with wool makes each piece of artwork unique and is the result of a long, creative, and artisanal process.
Anne processes the Portland sheep wool himself. He washes, cards, and dyes it with (natural) dyes. During the creation of each artwork, wool and wood are interacting, while Anne is drawing inspiration and guidance from the natural forms and colors, as well as the structure and properties of the wood. This results in a unique artwork each time, the product of a process in which the inherent nature of the wood is revealed. And that is why each piece is unique.
Anne participated in an online felting course with artist Elena Talikova and a felting workshop with Canadian-Dutch artist Marjolein Dallinga. He has already exhibited in Doetinchem and Hoog Keppel. Since 2023, he is a member of the artist collective “Het Web”.
