Annemai Meulendijks

Annemai Meulendijks

Annemai Meulendijks from Nijmegen presents wonderful embroderies in Kerkje de Rietstap.

After studying audiovisual art at the AKI in Enschede (nowadays called  ArtEZ), where she primarily worked with Super-8 film, she spent two years specializing in the then-new medium of video art at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. Even then, she worked closely with the subject: zooming in with the camera and scanning the image.

In recent years, she has shifted her focus to more detailed images in the form of textiles and, more specifically, to the art of working with needle and thread. She still works in series, embroidering with zoomed-in images, drawing thin lines with yarn. Her art (which is not large) looks vulnerable and fragile, but nevertheless is powerful.

Already before she moved to Nijmegen in the 1990-years, Annemai knew Dinxperlo and its smallest  monumental church of the Netherlands. Her mother-in-law, Truus Boland, volunteered at Kerkje de Rietstap until her death, which is why exhibiting her art there is so special to Annemai.

You are warmly invited to visit Annemai’s exhibition at “Kerkje de Rietstap” in Dinxperlo during May 2026.
