The Story of Patrick Art-man – From Marble to the Magic of Wood and Epoxy
It all began almost thirty years ago in a sun-drenched quarry in Portugal. At that time unaware of the extent of his future journey, the young Patrick Art-man touched the cold, hard marble for the first time. With a simple chisel and a vision, he began carving his first forms from the stone. What then began as an intuitive fascination with matter and form developed into a lifelong search for expression and the essence of what is present in a very moment.
Patrick’s journey took him all over the world. From Iceland to the vibrant art markets of Africa, and from garden and park design to goldsmithing, pottery, and painting, his hands continually discovered new materials, new techniques, and new paths. Yet, the creation of sculpture—making the invisible tangible—always remained the core of his work.
He has been collecting wood from the Achterhoek for 20 years. For the past seven years, he has been crafting extraordinary creations from wood and epoxy resin, two materials that continue to fascinate and inspire him. His sculptures move, float, hang, and amaze. His work includes both smaller figures for private individuals and imposing spatial objects that blur the boundaries between art and nature. Monumental works such as “The Tree of Wisdom,” “The Hunt,” and “The Golden Seat Tree” testify to his ability to combine boundless creativity and aesthetics.
In August, Patrick returns to the essence: the small, the intimate. In the idyllic church”Kerkje de Rietstap”, he exhibits a series of small-scale works that invite the viewer to silence and astonishment. Each object carries an echo of Patrick’s long journey, a whisper of wonder, a fluid movement of epoxy and a warm breath of wood.
Patrick Art-man — a man who not only makes images, but evokes worlds.
Come and see, and let yourself be touched.
