Gerrit Grievink, who is living in Dinxperlo, took part in a course of wood-carving in Dinxperlo in the 1990s, after which he attended 10 years of continuation courses in Aalten. The last course ended because the lecturer stopped.
Gerrit Grievink has always had a taste for working with wood. It is a material which is relatively easy to work, and the different structures of the various wood varieties fascinated him.
In a market for country products, he came into contact with some members of the sculptural group in Doetinchem who showed their work here. The conversation with these men aroused Gerrit’s interest. What he saw told him very much: To make a beautiful sculpture or statue from a rough piece of wood. The same afternoon he registered for the course of wood sculpture under the direction of lecturer Geert Lebbink. Then the next2 2 years he was taught by Daan de Leeuw from Winterswijk. (In the Gruitpoort).
In 2008 Gerrit Grievink became a member of the Sculptor Collective in Doetinchem. This is a group of about 30 sculptors who meet in the Gruitpoort on Thursdays and Fridays in the morning to pursue their hobbies together. They then work without guidance by a lecturer. Instead, they help each other in the making of pretty sculptures and statues. The topic of the work depends on the specific structure of the wood to be worked. So, the final result is always surprising.
Gerrit enjoys his hobby very much and hopes to be able to continue it for a long time.
